Hip Hop to me is a way of life, a way of expression. It is a way for urban youth to express themselves against social oppression. That...is what...Hip Hop is to me!
To me Hip-Hop is a form of expression, it is deeply rooted in the "hood" and it is a creative outlet for many black people. While hip-hop started with urban youth I do not believe it is only limited to this one group.
To me hip hop is a lifestyle and a way for people to express themselves. This is a comfort zone for most African Americans and it continues to evolve as time progresses!
Everyone primarily attests that Hip-Hop is contrived from expression. Hip-Hop is so much more than expression. Hip Hop is a culture within a culture. Yes, it is a culture of express where EVERYONE has the right to identify themselves thru talent. Nevertheless, Hip-Hop involve so much more; style, arts, conviction, social consciousness, the shared experience of struggle and oppression, the bonding that ensues from that sharing, and of course the self expression that results from the overwhelming emotions Hip-Hop infuses within us who love H.E.R.
To me, Hip Hop is a brilliant assortment of realities expressed through music, poetry and style by people of color. It has opened up brand new avenues for people of color to experience capitalism in a more positive light.
I feel like hip hop is the authentic story of the streets that the media doesn't want you to know about. Hence the lack of popularity, whereas rap is the commercialized version.
Hip-Hop is something bigger then anyone of us can imagine. Hip-Hop is empowerment, knowledge, wisdom, great ghetto stories of lives the media fail to display. To me Hip-Hop is Eric B and Rakim, Common Sense, Big L, Big Daddy Kane, NWA, KRS-One, Grand Master Flash, LL Cool J, Run-DMC, Nas, Ice Cube, Main Source and more. These artist are just a few that set the foundation to what artist today are trying to restore. I love hip-hip. I love the culture of hip-hop and movement that hip-hop present to the world today.
Just to give you something to think about listen to this song and read the lyrics.....tell me if this is the realest song you have heard in the past couple of years. Dr. P you should if you can print these lyrics out for class....if you haven't heard this, it's a great thing to listen to. I know some in class will appreciate what this man is saying.... Joe Budden Who Killed Hip-Hop
Hip Hop to me is something bigger then we can imagine or really explain in our modern times. I believe that today our clutural is some what confused on what hip hop is. I believe hip hop truly dates back to our ancestors and their music and ways of entertainment. Their ways to be able to express their emotions, feelings, struggles, joys and dreams. Through some type of rhythm. Rather it be with some type of musical instrument to the rhythm we make with our bodies. Hip hop is truly the expression of our minority clutural and all their trials and tribulations. And as the world evoles so does the history and meaning of hip hop. But one thing that will never will change is the root of hip hop. And the ones who carries it in their blood. Hip hop is not something I believe one can learn or teach. One can't not just wake up and say I am hip hop! To be hip hop you have to be born into. You have to have a history of it. It truly restes in your blood and will never go away. Hip hop is a way of living. Hip hop is a gift from our ancestor to help us soar in our lives. To help us over come all our life problems. That is why I believe Hip Hop is so successful and such an area of market. Hip hop is just not music but also poetry, movies, literature, business and etc. Hip hop is a way of living. Our way of living and gift!
Hip Hop for me is my own personal getaway. I turn to it when I'm tired of all the bull this life may bring. I want to hear about others that are going through the same things that I do. Hip Hop to me is that ultimate weapon to express yourself, young and old.
hip hop to me used to be a outlet to express one's feelings when it first emerged but now hip hop has become dichotomized into the alternative hip hop(ie political hip hop) and then there is the mainstream(ie popular hip hop) that most people listen to.
Hip Hop is a musical outlet for those who struggle, and want to rise above society's chokeholds. Some feel that hip hop is limited to African-American youth, but I disagree. I think what makes hip hop what it is, is the pain that the music holds and the authenticity of the artist. As long as an artist is being real, expressing themselves to their best ability, and not unnecessarily disrespectful then I will typically respect it.
To me Hip-Hop is... the voice of the the past, the present and the future. Its the voice of those transcending a message of hope against social, political, and economic oppression. Its a way of redefining a way of taking back what was taken from us and in a way returning it to its roots.
Hip Hop is a culture systematically designed to be a movement for the oppressed minorities of not only America but the world. It is a voice for those that struggle to be heard and a symbol/icon for those who need representation. It is the freedom of speech and the freedom of expression to not only the youth, but communities of poverty and oppression. It has no limits and no boundaries. Hip Hop is an musical genre that was created in four different elements: Dj-ing, emcee-ing, dancing, and art. From those four elements rap has emerged in to pop culture and mainstream American music. Hip Hop can be seen as an influential culture because it has influenced business, fashion, education, art, television, movies, literature, sports, and even government. It continues to grow with every listener and follower. It may not be clear at all times what Hip Hop is doing or where it is going, but it has roots and history. It will forever be a culture and way of life and way of living.
Hip Hop originally began as a musical expression of the oppressed and overlooked. However, that musical expression now influences the way its listeners walk, dress and talk. Hip Hop has evolved into a lifestyle that is lived by a diverse group of people. That being said, Hip Hop is an unadulterated and often abrasive expression of the soul that is often misunderstood by those who don't understand the message behind the lyrics.
Hip Hop to me represents a type of musical evolution or new era of music that comes along as music and technology evolved over time because before hip hop there was disco, rock n roll, jazz etc. I also think that hip hop is a melting pot of music because it is comprised of so many different genres and styles of music.
Hip Hop is a form of expression usually by those who have been mistreated, overlooked, and misunderstood. These are not the only ones who engage in the partaking of the Hip Hop culture. Those who are more privileged can actively contribute to the ways and lyrics associated in this context. However it began with the individuals who suffered from economical, social, and unethical oppression by the more dominant power in society. With the expression in using Hip Hop as a tool, generations have been able to find a way out of an enslaved and encompassed mindset.
Hip Hop is basically a culture and a lifestyle that is shown by the African American community. Hip Hop is expressed through music, djing, and dancing. There are all forms of hip hop. There are several forms of hip hop artists such as rappers, djs, dancers, and mcs. Hip hop keeps changing on a daily basis. What was hip hop 10 years ago isn't today's hip hop.
Hip-hop to me is a culture including a style of dress, talk, dance, art, and demeanor geared towards and perpetuated by the urban community. It is a form of popular self-expression for an otherwise under-represented group of people.
Hip-hop is a lifestyle showcased for the entire world through beats and rhymes. It coincides with urban fashion, expensive jewelry, and unique cars. In the end, hip-hop is created upon an identity that individuals looks to create within their lifetime.

Hip Hop is the voice of the street, the voice of a people. The voice of the people who at times feel they have no voice at all.

Hip hop is a way of life and an activity that people take part in to have fun and to showcase their talents.
Hip Hop is a culture in the sense that it is a system of symbols, beliefs, and practices. For many it is a way of life as well as a music style.
